Natema Primary School
Terrawatu has been partnered with Natema Primary School in Arusha region of Tanzania since 2002; supporting students, constructing classrooms, and assisting teachers with their work to educate the next generation. The school serves close to 900 children in this marginalized community during each school year, including a number of orphans.
In the past 20 years Terrawatu has:
Found sponsors for over a dozen female students at Natema to support their education.
Constructed a five-room building including three large classrooms, one computer lab and a teacher's office.
Outfitted the computer lab and in November 2017, officially deployed a KIO KIT (with 40 tablets) and laptops for teachers and administrative use.
Helped the school rise in rank in Arusha District from #48 to #18.
Support for this project has come from Google Gives, the Prigmore Charitable Fund, individual donors and friends of Natema around the world.
In 2019-20, Terrawatu provided additional laptops for teacher use as well as a commercial printer. We continue to assist the school with their continuing quest to improve student graduation rates.
The current headteacher - Ms. Joyce Mhina - is a dynamic leader and is working hard to roll out new government initiatives for daily school lunches in addition to continuing support for Terrawatu's IT projects and student sponsorship.
